Satou Kazuma, a game-obsessed shut-in,
was supposed to meet a pathetic end in a traffic accident (?!)
But through a bizarre twist of fate, he's reincarnated in another world—taking the goddess Aqua with him.
"In this RPG-esque fantasy world, I'll finally live out that adventurer dream! My goal: become a hero!"

He ends up forming a party with three companions—
Aqua, a troublemaking useless goddess;
Megumin, a wizard deep in chuunibyou;

They rack up massive debt and are even put on trial on charges of attempting to overthrow the kingdom.
They defeat the Devil King's Generals… and occasionally die along the way.
Then, a letter arrives for Kazuma and his party after their return from the Crimson Demon Village.
It's from Princess Iris, who wishes to hear their stories of defeating the Devil King's Generals.
Accompanied by her bodyguard Claire and tutor Rain,
Iris travels to Axel to meet them.
What should have been a peaceful meeting takes an unexpected turn—
"Didn't you promise you'd tell me more adventure stories?"
To Kazuma's surprise, the princess quickly grows attached to him!
And when he opens his eyes… he finds himself in The Royal Capital!
At Iris's request, he begins a temporary stay—
but soon grows fond of the comforts of royal life and decides to stick around for good. 
Meanwhile, at that very same time, a mysterious band of thieves is stirring up trouble in the shadows of the capital—!?
